I just did my 4 days holiday on Singapore. My first
backpacking trip. Literally, me and 3 friends went there with only 2
bags, a small backpack, and a small travel bag. So, this post is
recommended for you who still have a little gut to go on backpacking
trip.
Vacation prepared on October 2012, begin with a promotion ticket on Air Asia.We got return ticket for IDR 500.000 for flying in June 2013. Cheap huh!
Eight months were quite long to prepared your saving to go on a vacation. But....since I'm not a good saver, this thing doesn't happen.
So, my saving is enough for living cost and tourism fee on there.
So here we comeeee.....SINGAPORE!
My first backpacking tips is PREPARE YOUR BAGGAGE WELL. Because we did not buy any baggage, so we have to follow the Air Asia cabin baggage policy: 2 bags only, total 7kg max, and no liquor more than 100 ml.
So, I repacked my sunblock, facial foam, and bath foam into the small pot. So it is less than 100 ml.
Buy the travel size toothpaste, conditioner, and shampoo. Packed them into a clear closed small bag.
Next, manage you clothes and underwear well. Do not bring unnecessary fashion things.
I bought 3 dresses, 1 short, and 2 t-shirts. None of them are jeans which is heavy. My backpack and small bag were in total 5kg. I didn't have plan to go on shopping, that's why I think my baggage was fine.
Things to bring into your baggage are: sunblock, umbrella, tumbler, uv sunglasses, and comfort shoes/flip flops.
Another tips is BRING YOUR UNIVERSAL ADAPTOR PLUG, which I forgot.
This is a must. I forgot to bring mine. I didn't find it in terminal 3 Soetta Airport Jakarta, but you can find it in Terminal 2 Changi Airport in $8.
Take every information letter and map on information board, literally EVERYTHING! Map of Singapore, Map of Sentosa Island, Map of Singapore MRT (this is a must!), and Orchard shopping guide.
And Singapore is a really fine city. MRT is an easy way to go anywhere with cheap budget. So that is why those maps are soooo important.
Hmm...not really important for me though, because I am the map-blind girl. I can't even read map! So I just walked as my friend's tail.
Don't forget to buy Ez-Link card by $12, and top it up by $10. For my 4 days stay in Singapore I spent $30 going everywhere.
We stayed at B88 Hostel in Bugis. I give 4,5 stars. Clean bathroom, fast internet service, nice breakfast, and centrally located.
Oh, not to mention the low price.
You can get a free breakfast from 8-11 am. But if before 11 the cereal or milk or banana runs out, you can ask the receptionist to add more, they will gladly give you.
My first destination was Universal Studios Singapore.
Tips: USE COMFORT SHOES, BRING YOUR TUMBLER. Tap water is located near any restrooms. So you don't have to spent money buying drink.
Well, Transformer Ride and Mummy the Revenge are the must-try! Another attraction are Lights Camera off by Steven Spielberg, Rock Monster Live, and Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure.
When it comes to Battlestar Galactica, the highest and fastest roller coaster in USS, I was a coward!
We did our lunch on Malaysian Food Street outside USS. You can go out USS and return by showing your tickets.
A $5 Chicken Rice is quite good.
Song of the Sea was amazing. It is a fountain and lighting show in the edge of the Sentosa Beach. It costs $12 for standard seat. Choose the 7.40 pm show, so you can see the sunset before the show begin. Don't forget to come earlier and choose a seat in the upper middle.
Next destination is Orchard Road. The place for shopping, which we didn't do. Well, everyone should try the legendary Orchard Ice Cream. I taste Durian and Chocolate. Durian is the besssttt! Melted perfectly in your mouth. Oh its only $1 by the way.
Having meals on the mall is not a right choice as a backpacker. Buy your lunch on Asian Food Mall near Lucky Plaza. A $5 BIG bowl of Bee Houn Fish Soup is enough for 2 people. Well, I tell you, Singaporean meal portion is big!
Chinatown is for people who wants to know more about Asian heritage. Also lower cheap souvenir sell here. But I found Malaysian Chinatown is more amusing.
Tips: COME AFTER 3 PM. We came on 1 pm, and the hot weather is killing us!
Don't forget to visit Sri Mariamman Temple and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple near Chinatown.
Little India is not really interesting. Be careful to watch the map, because we got lost in here. Every building looks the same.
Merlion Statue is a must. You don't go to Singapore if you don't make a picture of a Merlion behind you, they say.
TIPS: MAKE A NIGHT VISIT. There is fountain, laser, and lighting show on the Marina Bay Sand Hotel.
Another place to buy a lower price souvenir is Mustafa Center near Bugis.
There are a lot of various of souvenir and also chocolate from $2 to $11.
Singapore Botanical Garden is not really fascinating. We only spent 10 minutes before left. Due to the hot crazy weather.
We spent our last day on Changi Airport. Such a fine airport that provides you everything!
Take a rest on the massage chair that located near lounge.
I promise you, my feet were in heaven.
If you want to go shopping, especially make up and fragrance things, Changi is the best place. No tax! So it will be cheaper.
And my journey ends with a nice Subway Italian Classic Tuna. Yummmy!
Amazing days, amazing journey with a fine budget.
My first time experience of backpacking. And I'm willing to do more.
